Context

With the Lisbon Strategy, environmental concerns play a central role in the European Union’s aim to be «the most dynamic and competitive knowledge-based economy in the world, capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion by 2010». Likewise the Gothenburg Strategy places emphasis on achieving a more sustainable pattern of development in its aim «to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising those of future generations.»

The Renewable Energy sector is taking an increasingly strategic approach towards these initiatives, both from environmental and economic standpoints, offering numerous opportunities for industrial development. Exchanges already exist between the Piedmont and Rhône-Alpes regions, but they can be improved by coordinating actions in and contributions to the renewable energy sector.
